Brandon Haist and Mausumi Basu of Savoy recently made a $5,000 donation to the Sarah Bush Lincoln Health Foundation to benefit the new Hospice House to be built this year on the hospital’s main campus. A plaque recognizing their gift will be placed on a special endowment wall in the main living room once construction of the 14,470-square-foot-facility is complete.
“Hospice touches all of our lives at one point or another and had a hospice house been available when my Dad was ill, it truly would have been a blessing,” said Mausumi whose father, Surgeon Asit Basu, MD, was a long-time provider at Sarah Bush Lincoln, and mother, Manju, was a dedicated volunteer there. Brandon’s father was also a long-time pharmacist in Mattoon. “This will be a wonderful addition to the community that our parents loved so much.”
Construction on the $8 million house will begin in late spring and will be built on the north side of the main hospital campus. Through a campaign called: The most important home you’ll ever build, the Foundation is raising $1 million to help offset construction costs and another $1.5 million to fund an endowment to help those without resources pay for their stay in the hospice house.
“We’re very excited to build this endowment so that earnings can directly assist those families who simply don’t have funds to stay in the hospice house,” Amy Card, SBL Foundation director, said. “Insurance companies pay for nursing care in a facility such as this, but they won’t pay the room and board. So many families don’t want their loved ones to pass at home or in a nursing home and our hospice house will be a perfect place to make final memories with Lincolnland Hospice staff just steps away.”
