Location: Mattoon, IL

Washington Savings Bank is raising funds for patients of the Sarah Bush Lincoln Heart Center with its “Give a Heart” campaign.

The fundraiser runs from Feb. 1 through Feb. 12 at the bank’s Mattoon location at 1111 Charleston Ave. Customers of the bank can purchase a heart to hang in the window for $1 with 100 percent of the proceeds benefitting patients at the Heart Center.

“Some of our patients have difficulty paying for items associated with their treatment,” Amy Card, Sarah Bush Lincoln Health Foundation Director, said. Those with chronic heart conditions, such as heart failure, need to monitor their weight daily as fluctuations can be a warning sign. “Dollars raised with this effort from Washington Savings Bank are used to help those patients without resources purchase scales so they can monitor their weight closely, ultimately avoiding worsening symptoms and readmission,” Card said.

Washington Savings Bank’s president, David Doedtman said, “In honor of American Heart Month, we wanted to help bring heart health awareness to Coles and Effingham counties. Last year’s ‘Give a Heart’ fundraiser was such a big hit that we wanted to do it again this year. With everything going on in our world, we a need a little heart health.”

Card added, “We are so grateful for the generosity of Washington Savings Bank and for its creative ideas to raise funds and awareness for heart health. We have such a supportive community that donates to these efforts to benefit our patients in need.”
