About: | The American Council of the Blind offers information and referral services regarding non-medical aspects of blindness; publishes a magazine, “The ACB Braille Forum,” ten times a year in large print, braille, and on digital cartridge, as well as via email, podcast, and online; holds an annual conference in July of each year (volunteer opportunities available) featuring a large trade show with the latest high- and low-tech gadgets for blind and visually impaired people, as well as a wide variety of informative seminars, workshops, and sessions (some for continuing education units); and holds an annual legislative seminar in Washington, D.C. that features a day for members to go up to Capitol Hill and talk with their senators and representatives (volunteer opportunities available). ACB also offers Community Events on a variety of topics, from cooking to grief support groups, cancer support groups, technology training sessions, learning braille, social events/coffee klatches, crafts, literature, religion, exercise classes, sports talk, learning a foreign language, creative writing, and many more. The American Council of the Blind also provide college scholarships for blind students; the application is available online.
